on Jul 7th, 2009Britain’s Top 10 Fittest Celebrities
Every glossy magazine has listed Britain’s sexiest celebrities, but who are Britain’s fittest celebrities in the true sense of the word?… Athletic, strong and flexible. I’ve done my research and put together this list. To keep things fair and leave enough room for everyone else, I’ve not included any professional sports people or athletes – yes, that means Beckham is out I’m afraid. So here’s it is, Britain’s Top 10 fittest celebrities, 5 girls and 5 guys…
The Girls
5. Kelly Brook. For years Kelly’s curves have made her one of the most popular British pin-ups, but to stay in such great shape she’s had to put time and effort into her training. After appearing on Strictly Come Dancing in 2007 she achieved an awesome level of dance fitness and claims that her dance workouts are the secret to her maintaining that fitness two years on. To mix things up she adds hula hooping, gym ball training, outdoor circuit training and running.
4. Jenni Falconer. On completing this years London Marathon in an impressive 3:53:16, Jenni has not only earned a place on this fit list, but also a marathon honed body she could be proud of. So proud in fact that she found the confidence to show off her newly toned physique in an Ultimo lingerie photo shoot this May. Before training for the marathon Jenni kept her body fit and toned with British Military Fitness workouts in the park, mixing bodyweight and aerobic circuits.
3. Mel B. Of all the Spice Girls, Mel B has without a doubt maintained the best shape and fitness level and now also models Ultimo lingerie. In preparation for her Peepshow in Vegas this year, she started a gruelling fitness plan that includes 600 situps 5 times a week, as well as sprint intervals. She can do an impressive 200 situps in less than 2 minutes. In a recent interview Mel revealed one other muscle toning secret… She has sex 5 times a day. Don’t we all?!
2. Davina McCall. Despite being comfortably into her 40s and having had three children, Davina keeps up an exercise regime worthy of respect. As any Big Brother fan will know (she was heavily pregnant during BBs 2, 4 and 7) Davina is living proof that pregnancy is not a barrier to maintaining a good fitness level and a great body. Her number 1 range of fitness DVDs are superb for toning and body sculpting, which goes a long way to explaining her flat, washboard abs.
1. Nell McAndrew. Model, Forces Sweetheart and yet another Ulitmo model, Nell puts the ‘fit’ into fitness. Running in the 2005 London Marathon, she crossed the finish line in a time that allowed her to start with the elite athletes in future events. At this years London Marathon Nell was the first celebrity to finish, with an amazing time of 3:10:20. When she isn’t running Nell keeps fit with boxing and she also released the number 1 selling fitness DVD “Peak Energy”.
The Guys
5. Gordon Ramsey. He may have a mouth like a squaddie, but he has the fitness level to match. This year Gordon ran his 10th consecutive London Marathon, which shows he’s no one-run-wonder and clearly committed to his fitness regime. Once weighing in at over 17 stone, he got into running to get his weight down and has never looked back. Gordon is proof that the F-word (F-itness!) is essential for people who love their food but want to maintain a healthy weight and shape.
4. Christian Bale. Having received a lot of bad press for an on-set tantrum, when you see his workout routine you’ll be a little more forgiving. The man has put everything into his training, whether it but cutting up to a scrawny 8 stone 10 (122lbs) for his role in The Machinist, to then bulking up to over 14 stone (196lbs) of pure muscle for Batman. How did he pack on all that muscle? Supersets of chin-ups and cable rows with high pulls and power cleans, bench press and flys.
3. Daniel Craig. During filming for Casino Royal Daniel had a level of conditioning worthy of an Olympian. With the help of his personal trainer he undertook a rigorous circuit training regime to achieve this now famous physique. The circuit combined the best compound exercises – squats, bench press and chin ups. Whether he’s maintained that conditioning, who knows, but this image will last on the fridges and desktops of his adoring female fans for years to come.
2. Jason Statham. Hollywood superstar Jason has built a body as hard and mean as the action heroes he portrays. An ex-Olympic diver with a background in martial arts and kickboxing, he has what it takes to perform his own stunts. His workout is a muscle smashing mix of pyramid training, 1 rep max training, isometric exercises, circuit training and interval training – all crammed into 40 minutes. He also uses kettlebells to hone his functional strength for fight scenes.
1. Ben Fogle. Not who you were expecting at No 1?! Don’t be fooled by his animal loving, cuddly exterior. Any man who has rowed across the Atlantic earns a well deserved place on any fit list, not just this one. Ben is hooked on putting his body through all manner of fitness nightmares, including a 49 day crossing of Antarctica to the South Pole and the six day Marathon des Sables across 160 miles of the Sahara Desert. He also plans to climb Mount Everest in 2010.
Do you agree with the list? Have I left anyone out? Would you make any changes? If so add your comments below!
